About Ayurvedic massage

Experience the ancient Indian art of therapeutic touch.

Ayurveda - the knowledge or science of life - works with the whole person. Sometimes described as Yoga’s partner science, Ayurvedic principles guide us how to live in balance and harmony with nature and the world around us. An Ayurvedic specialist will observe a persons natural essence from their body type, skin, eyes, tongue, through to their personality traits and how they deal with the stressors of life. The tridosha theory is unique to Ayurveda - describing each and every one of us as having our own individual temperament - vata, kapha, pitta or a mixture - which is governed by the five elements. From this you may be prescribed certain Yoga asana (postures), meditation or pranayama (breathing) practices, certain foods that might nourish you a little more than deplete you, herbs and massage.

And that is where I come in!

About tui na massage

experience the ancient chinese health maintenance system of Tui Na

Tui na is one branch of the traditional Chinese medicine system and is thought to be between 3500 and 4000 years old. Tui na means to push and pull (grasp) and is a vigorous form of non-invasive massage. This system does not only work on the muscles, connective tissues and joints of the body, but also is concerned with the healthy flow of Qi (life energy) through the meridians (channels) and acupoints. For many of us our Qi flow is deficient or excessive due to physical, emotional and stress factors. When this is prolonged dis-ease can start to accumulate in body and mind. Tui Na assists in helping the qi move as we stimulate blood flow around the body and to the organs, and help regenerate the bodies natural ability to heal.

Tui Na is given over clothing and without any oil. Some treatments can work great from a chair or a massage table.

I ask that for treatments you wear thin clothing with as natural fibres as possible please.

bodywork background

I have been trained in various bodywork practices for over 25 years. I have been bringing ayurvedic principles into my Yoga sessions for many years, offering courses and workshops on this fascinating system, and use acupoint and meridian work in the Qigong sessions that I offer. I have trained as an Ayurvedic massage therapist with the incredible Sunita Passi at Tri-dosha, and in the Maria Mercati method of Tui Na massage in Cheltenham

Before your Ayurvedic treatment you will be asked to complete a dosha questionaire. This gives me a general idea of what oils I will use for your treatment, what breathing techniques I might offer and what kind of massage I will create for you.
